My friends, who follow my activity on PP, would have noted I'm alternating, since a lot of time, photos taken during my little cruise (to celebrate twenty years of married life) in the western Mediterranean Sea, with others taken during my everyday life. Today is the day dedicated at cruise. Don't worry (or worry, if you don't like them... :-) ): I still have a lot of photos of this travel, to show you... This was shot in Rome, before entering the Pantheon.
ABOUT THE PANTHEON (from Wikipedia) The Pantheon (from Greek meaning "Temple of all the Gods") is a building in Rome which was originally built as a temple to the seven deities of the seven planets in the state religion of Ancient Rome. The current building dates from about 125 AD, during the reign of the Emperor Hadrian. It is the best preserved of all Roman buildings, and perhaps the best preserved building of its age in the world. It has been in continuous use throughout its history. Although the identity of the Pantheon's primary architect remains uncertain, it is largely assigned to Apollodorus of Damascus. Since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a Christian church. Also buried there are two kings of Italy: Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I, as well as Umberto's Queen, Margherita. The building is circular with a portico of three ranks of huge granite Corinthian columns (eight in the first rank and two groups of four behind) under a pediment opening into the rotunda, under a coffered, concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus), the Great Eye, open to the sky.
