2K Sports' MLB2K8 Goes Gold and more

Today, 2K Sports announced that 2KSports Major League Baseball 2K8 has gone gold.  And while this isn't super huge news, what is really good news is that with this will come support for the Wii.  With this edition of the game, you will have updated field, baserunning, and pitching while the batting interface has been completely redone.   "Jon Miller and Hall of Famer Joe Morgan, the best announcing duo in baseball video games, are back in the booth to deliver the deepest commentary available, providing insightful analysis of each ball and strike. Other in-game features include a totally unique trading card system, robust Minor League system including 90 playable minor league teams, all-new Signature Style? animations complete with home run celebrations, and much more."

The Wii controls are adaptable to the game as follows:

  • Pitching ? To pitch, players simply point the Wii Remote at the screen, pull back to start the pitcher?s motion, then flick the Wii Remote  forward. The quicker the player flicks the remote, the more velocity and movement the pitch will have. The Nunchuk can be used to view a player?s pitch arsenal and to select which pitch to throw.
  • Batting ? Swinging for the fences with Major League Baseball 2K8 on Wii will provide fans with even more fun when they control the Wii Remote as if they were swinging a real bat. The Nunchuk acts to control the direction of the ball.
  • Fielding ? While controlling their designated player using the Nunchuk, players can snag fly balls and use the Wii Remote to throw to the appropriate base. Players can use Major League Baseball 2K8?s ?Smart Throw? technology to throw to the best base by simply flicking the Wii Remote or can manually choose which base to throw to by pressing a direction on the directional pad.
  • Baserunning ? Players can control the speed of their baserunning by shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk simultaneously, then pushing both controllers to slide.

Expect the game to come out on the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, and PSP on 03.04.08

One Last Look at the Republican Convention: the Balloon Drop!

I was listening to McCain's nomination acceptance speech on the radio on the way to the airport yesterday and it sounded so different than it did in the arena. I actually got to hear the fiery end to the speech, the part where he said:

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We're Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

In the arena that night, the whole last minute was drowned out by cheers — and then when the soaring music swelled, the confetti rained down as the harbinger of balloons and the hopeful first family took the stage, forget about it — it was a perfect end to a convention that last Monday, no one even knew if it would happen. But it did, and I'm so glad to have been there.

To see the balloon drop,
